Our Club - Fun, Fitness, Friendship

The Rose City Roamers was founded in 1987 to provide fun, fitness, and friendship mainly through different walking events.

We are part of

  1. the Oregon Trails Volkssport Association (OTSVA), an organization that has 8 walking clubs throughout Oregon.
  2. the American Volkssport Association (AVA) which have walking events in all 50 States and Clubs in most states and the international organization
  3. the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) based in Germany with 38 countries as members.

We offer walking events mainly in the Portland Metro Area, Canby, Columbia Gorge, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Oregon City, Tualatin and Wilsonville. The walks are normally 5km (3.1miles) or 10km (6.2 miles) long: but on occasion we may include a 21km (half marathon) or 42 km (Marathon) event.  On occasion we may also offer other non-competitive sports like biking, swimming kayaking, etc.

The IVV offers an international awards program for distance walked and number of walks that members can participate in; but is not required to be a member. All of our club walks are sanctioned by the AVA so that those walkers that want to participate in the awards program can get credit for the number of walks completed and the distance they have walked.

You do not have to be a club member to participate in our walks.
